Risk Factors for Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Abuse in
Arkansas was developed in cooperation with the Arkansas Department of Human
Services, Division of Behavioral
Health Services, Alcohol
and Drug Abuse Prevention. with federal funds from the Substance
Abuse and Treatment Block Grant, Substance
Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services.
The publication is updated annually and contains a compilation of
archival data for over 50 indicators in 75 Arkansas counties.
These indicators are measures of risk factors based on the work of
J. David Hawkins and Richard F. Catalano at the University of
Washington's Social
Development Research Group. These risk factors have been found
to be precursors of substance abuse through multiple longitudinal
studies and are also related to other risk behaviors such as
juvenile delinquency and violence.
The 2004 edition contains data for the years 1990 and 1999
through 2003.
The Risk Factors data are also available on CD-ROM.
The Risk Factors 2004 CD-ROM contains all of the
available county-level indicators. The user
can build custom queries, browse the dataset, and export data to use
with other software. The database application requires Windows 95
or higher.
