What is GIS?

A GIS (Geographic Information System) is a computer-based mapping solution. GIS can utilize information found in databases in a revolutionary new way by adding visual impact. Transportation systems, utilities, bodies of water, zoning areas, and virtually all other geographic data can be displayed on maps to be seen, edited, and interacted with using a Geograhpic Information System.
