Advanced Certificate in
Business Retention and Expansion

Description:

        

Prepares the candidate to conduct an effective local business retention and expansion program. It is designed for participants who work for or serve in economic development leadership positions in localities, state and multicounty agencies, utilities, and educational institutions. The program, which can be completed in less than two years, combines on-site instruction, distance learning approaches, independent and/or group study, and exercises related to the participant’s job where possible.

Credits earned toward the Advanced Certificate also may be applied toward completion of the Mid-South Economic Development Professional designation. In addition, this program is offered in conjunction with Business Retention and Expansion International (BREI). Courses in the Advanced Certificate Program may be used to meet some of the educational requirements for BREI’s Certified Master Consultant designation. Requirements:
  • Introduction to Business Retention and Expansion (2 credits)
  • Regional and Community Analysis for Economic Development (2 credits)
  • Planning Strategically for the New Economy (2.5 credits)
  • Additional course(s) (1.5 credits minimum)
