Our History

The Institute for Economic Advancement at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (IEA) was founded in the 1950s to aid in the economic development of Arkansas. In its various forms, the IEA has been heavily involved in the economic development efforts of Arkansas for the past fifty years.

The IEA started using the Internet in the early 1980s. As part of an institute of higher education, the IEA was connected to the National Science Foundation's NSFNET and used it to communicate and share knowledge throughout the United States. In the early 1990s, the IEA developed its first website primarily to disseminate information about its services and publications. This website was highly utilized and the IEA decided that the Internet would be a great way to disseminate economic development information about Arkansas to a worldwide audience.

The IEA Web Support Team was founded in 1995 to create and maintain an Arkansas economic development portal that became known as the Development Information Network of Arkansas or DINA. In the five years since then, the web support team has developed over sixty websites for economic and community development organizations and local governments.
