Special Projects

WSEP has been a partner in several special projects funded by grant money, they include:

  • Housing and Urban Development (HUD)
In 1998, UALR received an appropriation from HUD to assist with community revitalization in the Oak Forest community. Through this appropriation, the Next Move job-training program was established. Microsoft Office and job search skills are provided to parents of children in the UALR Share America Program.

  • Community Outreach Partnership Center (COPC)
With the funds awarded from COPC, the University has been able to continue programs and expand outreach in the Oak Forest community. Staff, faculty, and students are working with Oak Forest to implement their strategic plan.
The Next Move program has expanded training to the Neighborhood Resource Center. There are waiting lists for both the Share America and Resource Center training sites.

  • New Directions Grant
This grant is only available to former COPC recipients. Hoping to continue COPC efforts, funds from this grant will be used to assist small businesses in the geographic area of the University by providing consultation and training that addresses their specific needs. Additionally, an effort will be made to assist Hispanic small business owners with language barriers, information about local governmental requirements for businesses, etc. This effort supports the University in partnering with area businesses that have a vested interest in revitalizing and stabilizing the surrounding communities.
